The 2023 #RevPit Annual Showcase is Live!

Well, friends. It’s here! The #RevPit annual showcase is live for the class of 2023! That means my dark fantasy book submission is now displayed to the public and, most importantly, to prospective agents and editors. Hi!!!

This is how I imagine the Skratti from my book celebrating

I’ve worked the past two months on multiple revision passes with my lovely, and slightly unhinged, editor Maria Tureaud and I couldn’t be more proud of how this book has transformed. We added subplots! We added a new character! We added more lush, dark, gothic prose! Plot holes have been plugged! World-building has been enhanced! The snark has gotten snarkier! The romance, more steamy! I could go on because I am in so much love with this book! I hope the story sparks something in readers one day and you all come to love my dark, twisty, monster-girl as much as I do.

The Skratti would definately say this

I want to thank Maria for all her hard work helping me revise this book (for FREE ya’ll!). She read it multiple times and helped me brainstorm when I needed a sounding board. Her enthusiasm for the Skratti and for Norse Mythology made this process a delight and I feel so lucky she chose my book as her winner this year. It’s been a dream, truly. If any of my friends and family want to support Maria, she is also an author and has a spooky vampire middle grade book out now! PS – if you like Vikings, you will love how she snuck in bits of lore into this story. It’s brilliant.

Buy Maria's book or else...

Now, a little about the book:

BLÓT – HEART EATER is an adult Norse-inspired dark fantasy with elements of horror and heavy on the romance. It’s also a historical novel, taking place during the Viking Age (A.D. 900s) but I’ve been told my historical writing is very accessible and reads contemporary.

You will love BLÓT – HEART EATER if you like:

  • Norse mythology
  • Villain protagonist and monster girls
  • Enemies to lovers romance tropes
  • Powerful sisterly bonds
  • Gender-bent Beauty & The Beast
  • Shows like Vikings or The Last Kingdom
  • Books like Sky in The Deep, Lakesedge, Belladonna, and The Witch’s Heart
  • Authors like Victoria Schwab, Adalyn Grace, Adrienne Young, Maria Tureaud (duh)
  • The doomsday wit of Netflix’s Wednesday Addams (hence the gifs)
  • Burn it all down females like GOT Daenerys
  • Lush, gothic atmosphere and dark prose
  • Morally grey characters (Are they good? Are they evil? Who can tell!)
  • Spicy romance (or as Maria wrote in my editing notes ‘sexy time’)
  • Blood and monsters doing monster things (this is a dark fantasy, after all)
The Skratti knows how to have a good time

Since this book does include some darker themes, here is the content warning for those who wish to know upfront what topics may be triggering:

Book Content Warning

As a medieval dark fantasy with elements of horror, this book has many depictions of blood and violence. It contains ritualistic animal sacrifice, self-harm, parental death, cannibalism (half-human, half supernatural creature), allusions to child abandonment, and suicide. Though these scenes are done with care and inspired by a real ancient culture, they may still trigger some.

The Skratti does enjoy blood

That’s a wrap! With this showcase now live, I guess that means I am officially querying this book! And to my fellow 2023 #RevPit class – I wish you all luck in the showcase. Your stories sound so good and I know you all deserve all the success in the world! I’ll be cheering you all on over the coming months and years until I can buy all your amazing books!

If you missed the link to the showcase above, here it is again.

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy my first 5 pages!
