Announcement! I have a literary agent!

A Valentine Card that reads "Will you be my agent?" against a moody forest background with a knife stabbing a heart

I’m thrilled to announce I signed with Bethany Weaver at Weaver Literary to represent my books! This news is five years and six books in the making and I couldn’t be more excited to start this next chapter in my author journey.

If you don’t know what a literary agent is or why it’s important for authors to get one, here is a great intro article. One common mis-perception is that an author can just hire an agent when they are ready to submit their books to publishers. Friends, it is much more complicated than that. Literary agents have to wade through the slush piles to find their clients and believe me when I say they have HUNDREDS of books waiting for them in their slush. They select which books and authors they want to represent from the best of the best so sometimes it takes a little while to make that list. But I am now on the list!

I knew Bethany was the right agent for me when she requested not just one, but two of my manuscripts and totally understood what I was trying to do with my stories. Her enthusiasm for Norse myth and darker romantic fantasy is a huge asset for my current portfolio and I know she is going to be a stellar creative business partner for my author career.

"Thanks" against a moody dark forest

I want to take the time to thank a few people who helped me on my journey to get here because even through writing is a solitary experience, being an author is not.

First, I must thank the Revise & Resubmit program and my incredible editor Maria Tureaud for selecting my book last year. Maria was the first person to see the Skratti as a goddess instead of a monster and her keen editing eye shaped my story into a real book. I will forever be grateful for her generosity with her time and support.

To my critique partners – Lindsey Barrett, J.L.Fernández, Nadine Bells, and Jonathan Fortin who helped me make Blót into the best book it could be and for leaving me the most unhinged positive feedback. To Elizabeth and Katrin who helped me shine up that first chapter for the millionth time.

To my fellow #RevPit class of 2023 – you inspire and motivate me every day. Thank you for your friendship and our zoom writing sessions. I’m lucky to be on this ride with you.

To the Write Hive #writerbees – this wasn’t my Write Hive book but it kind of feels like it was. You encouraged me to submit to RevPit, supported me through revisions, & commiserated with me in the query trenches. You all deserve publishing success & I’m rooting for you!

To L.C. Hill, I’m so grateful we connected to write together all those years ago and have persevered through a pandemic, countless zoom sessions, and endless lattes. Your friendship means the world.

And finally, to my lovely husband who has to be married to someone who always has one foot in another world – thank you for putting up with my day dreams and big dreams and everything in between. I know it’s not always easy, but your love and support are everything.

Okay, now that we have the sappy stuff out of the way, if you are interested in reading more about how I got my literary agent, I will be posting a separate blog on that soon. Stay tuned!
